About half of these students are studying on part-time courses while mature undergraduates are also in abundance. One of Bolton University's main attributes is that it is particularly well known for supporting students with additional needs.

The University of Bolton has an excellent rating for quality of teaching in a range of subjects, including:

 • Biology
 • Education
 • Health Studies
 • Nursing
 • Philosophy
 • Psychology
 • Textiles

As well as these, research in metallurgy, materials, English and philosophy is also highly praised, with much recognition both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, the location of Bolton University in relation to the great cities of Liverpool and Manchester is also appealing to students.

Campus life at the university is also good and the University of Bolton Students' Union provides students with good facilities and direction.

The City of Bolton

Bolton itself is a great town to be based for university students. It has excellent shopping and leisure facilities, has much in the way of history and is also located near to the beautiful Pennine countryside. There are over 700 listed buildings and 20 conservation areas in Bolton, including the spectacular Town Hall; while Le Mans Crescent is revered for the Art Gallery and Museum.

Manchester and Liverpool may have the limelight regards shopping and nightlife, but Bolton is certainly no slouch in this department either, with many shopping complexes and unique speciality stores, as well as numerous cosmopolitan bars, restaurants and nightclubs. The city centre is vibrant day and night and there are also plenty of green areas for some quiet respite.

Student Loans

Bolton University is allowed to charge new, full-time students up to £3,000 a year for tuition fees from September 2006. Many students will apply for a student loan to cover their tuition fees and day to day living costs. Student loans are the best option for borrowing money for college as interest rates are traditionally low and repayments don't start until graduated students are in work and are earning over £15,000.
