Gloucester UniversityGloucester University has a history stretching back to the local Mechanics Institutes of the early 19th century and today boasts high quality teaching and research in a sound environment. It received university powers in 2001 and is home to thousands of students spread across four campuses. A wide range of subjects are available at undergraduate and postgraduate level at the University of Gloucestershire, where both full-time and part-time courses are taught. Gloucester University Campus LifeThe four campuses at Gloucester University are located in Gloucester and Cheltenham, with one at the former and three at the more affable Cheltenham, including: Oxtalls Campus in Gloucester and Francis Close Hall Campus, Park Campus, and Pittville Campus in Cheltenham.Some courses enable students to study at various campuses at Gloucester University and there is free transportation in the form of a regular bus that runs between all campuses and the city centres of Cheltenham and Gloucester. Student facilities at the campuses are outstanding, with the quality and well-established University of Gloucestershire Students’ Union, which includes more than 40 sports and clubs. Quality halls of residence and nearby shared flats and houses in Gloucester and Cheltenham provide the accommodation and there are also several cafes and restaurants on site.
The city of GloucesterLocated on the River Severn in west England, Gloucester, a medium-sized market town with a cathedral, is best known for its setting amid the beautiful Severn Valley and the attractive Cotswold Hills. Gloucester itself is a combination of a rich historic past, familiar high-street shops, and a lively and exciting nightlife.
The city of CheltenhamA short drive from Gloucester is the affable spa town of Cheltenham, with its wide shopping streets, fine Regency architecture, and numerous traditional pubs, trendy cafes and established restaurants. All around the town are large manor houses and picturesque villages, while the spectacular landscape allows for ample opportunity to do some walking and cycling.
Student LoansGloucester University is allowed to charge new, full-time students up to £3,000 a year for tuition fees from September 2006. Many students will apply for a student loan to cover their tuition fees and day to day living costs. Student loans are the best option for borrowing money for college as interest rates are traditionally low and repayments don't start until graduated students are in work and are earning over £15,000.
