Liverpool John Moores UniversityLiverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a popular and thriving university in the heart of the vibrant northern English city of Liverpool. Originally founded in 1825 as the Liverpool Mechanics' School of Arts, the institution received university powers in 1992 and changed its name from the Liverpool Polytechnic to the present day Liverpool John Moores University. It took its name from Sir John Moores, the Littlewoods magnate. Liverpool John Moores University encourages students from all walks of life to develop talent and success and receives students from countries worldwide. There are currently around 24,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students at the university studying an array of interesting topics, with research in multimedia, sports science and space exploration particularly successful. Liverpool John Moores University Campus LifeThere are three campuses dotted around the centre of Liverpool, including the City Campus, IM Marsh Campus, and the Mount Pleasant Campus.All three campuses have excellent student facilities and come with quality accommodation in halls of residence. Most of the student rooms have en-suite bathrooms and are close to teaching buildings, while alternatives include shared accommodation in nearby town flats and townhouses. Welfare facilities and services for students on-site are second to none and library and computer facilities, sports facilities, and shops, cafes and bars make university life at Liverpool John Moores University even more attractive. The Liverpool Students' Union also helps to make life at the university run smoothely.
Liverpool CityLiverpool was chosen as European Capital of Culture 2008, owing to its thriving economy, rejuvenated areas, and numerous quality attractions. The city is loaded with history and is of course the home of the ‘Famous Four’, The Beatles. The famed Cavern Club, where The Beatles used to play, is one of Liverpool’s big attractions and is still a big hit in the music world.Liverpool is also bursting with world class museums and art galleries, while Liverpool and Everton football clubs and Aintree Grand National add to its allure. There is plenty to do at night, too, with an endless supply of theatres, cinemas, live music venues, cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars and mega nightclubs.
Student LoansLiverpool John Moores University is allowed to charge new, full-time students up to £3,000 a year for tuition fees from September 2006. Many students will apply for a student loan to cover their tuition fees and day to day living costs. Student loans are the best option for borrowing money for college as interest rates are traditionally low and repayments don't start until graduated students are in work and are earning over £15,000.
