There are excellent student welfare resources at the campuses, as well as quality counselling services, superb libraries, three museums and a Special Needs Coordinator for students who require extra care.

Reading University also boasts a purpose-built health centre, a chaplaincy, and some of the finest sports facilities in the country at the Wolfenden Sports Centre, Whiteknights. Here you will find a multi-purpose sports hall, a fully-equipped fitness room and many pitches and fields surrounding the centre.

Excellent social facilities are within reach of each campus’s halls and the Reading University Student Union (RUSU) has recently been refurbished and offers bars, shops and a games area.

Reading Town

Lying on the River Thames to the west of London, Reading boasts a fine history and is particularly known for its brilliant museums, restaurants and nightlife options. The town centre is mostly pedestrianised and ideal for strolling, with Broad Street and Friar Street having the best offering of restaurants and pubs.

Other shopping and entertainment options can be found in the Oracle Shopping and Leisure Complex, which features numerous shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. In addition, boat rides along the Thames to Henley are all the rage in the summer, not to mention the major festivals that are held in the town every year.

Student Loans

Reading University is allowed to charge new, full-time students up to £3,000 a year for tuition fees from September 2006. Many students will apply for a student loan to cover their tuition fees and day to day living costs. Student loans are the best option for borrowing money for college as interest rates are traditionally low and repayments don't start until graduated students are in work and are earning over £15,000.
